How much does a Rabbit cost?

Last Updated:

You may already know exactly what you need before you bring your pet bunny home, but have you asked yourself the question: how much does a rabbit cost?

You really should.

After all, before your heart says YES to buying a rabbit, it’s probably a good idea to figure out whether your bank account agrees first.

You need to consider the following two questions:

  1. How much do you need to spend before I bring my pet bunny home?
  2. How much does it cost each month to keep my pet bunny?

Want to work it all out, but don’t know where to start?

Don’t worry, I have you covered.

How much does a rabbit cost?

When we brought Ronnie home for the first time, we already had most of the things he needed covered.

That’s mostly because we had about a month’s notice to prepare.

Of course, we were eager to bring the little fella home as soon as we could, but it was far more important that we had everything he needed first.

The cost was as much of a struggle as the wait to bring him home was, but we just about managed it.

If we’d have thought about the cost of getting a pet bunny before agreeing to buy him (or before even thinking about getting him), we would’ve been much better prepared.

That’s where this article comes into play

In this article, I’m going to run through exactly what it costs to get a new bunny AND the monthly costs involved in monthly rabbit upkeep.

Hopefully, anybody thinking about getting a pet bunny will be a lot better informed than we were.

So, how much does a rabbit cost?

Let’s take a look.

Indoor Rabbit

We’ve already established that there are 7 essentials you need before you get your pet bunny, so that gives us a great platform to begin working out new bunny set up costs.

The first set of costs is based on your new pet bunny bring strictly an indoor rabbit.

Check it out below:

Spay / Neuter (free if you adopt)£50Based on average price.
Rabbit£50Based on average price.

So how much does a rabbit cost?

The cost of the Rabbit itself can vary.

I’ve seen some places sell Rabbit’s can go for 2 for £25, but mostly they go for an average of £50.

We bought Ronnie from a friend so it cost us much less.

A new pet bunny will cost approximately £148.36 if you don’t have your rabbit neutered.

With neutering that comes to around £198.36 (based on £50 average cost).

But what if you want your rabbit to be an outdoor rabbit too?

How much does a rabbit cost then?

Outdoor Rabbit

The cost of this outdoor rabbit is pretty much identical to the indoor rabbit costs, except there is an outdoor cage included in the list.

Okay, so why is there an indoor cage still on the list?

The assumption is that even if you want your pet bunny to be an outdoor rabbit, you’ll still need an indoor cage.

Why?

Most Rabbit owners tend to bring their pet bunny inside overnight. Especially in cold winter months.
